We have collected the most frequently asked questions about your appointment, pre- and aftercare, equipment, us and our services, and made them available to you. We will also be happy to advise you in a personal consultation if any questions remain unanswered.
TATTOO
Not all desired motifs can be implemented as a tattoo in size, placement or tattoo style. Partial adjustments are necessary to allow good healing and a desired result even after years.
Lines can already become a little wider during the healing process. Additionally, the tattoo will age with you and your skin. It is important to us that you are still happy with your tattoo in years to come, so we refer to our decades of experience to estimate a minimum size for all tattoos (which can vary individually, especially for fonts, symbols, etc.).
At MAYDUNA we want to create the opportunity of an individual tattoo – which also means that we respect the work or art of others.
Therefore, we individualize and change designs that consist of templates from other artists. Please understand that it's against our artistic self-image and professional ethics to imitate, copy and misappropriate the work of other artists.
We also reserve the right to reject motifs due to their frequency, their meaning/expression or the placement you desire.
This means in individual cases that a desired tattoo, especially on the neck, face, fingers and hand can be rejected by us. Our ethics as a company in the tattoo industry is to protect customers also from their wishes and their impact on everyday life, workplace and effect on the outside.
People under the age of 18 are not carelessly tattooed by reputable tattoo artists. The legal situation is not clear in Germany.
Under certain and very special circumstances, we realise tattoos with the consent of the person with parental authority and a joint conversation about a possible "necessity" of the tattoo. In the case of loss of a close person, a drastic event or by strokes of fate, a tattoo can be part of the coping process, for example. However, we always reserve the right to discuss individual cases individually and not infrequently also refuse.
We work exclusively with colours that are approved according to the German Tattooing Ordinance.
We work on the highest hygiene standards, which are regularly reviewed, updated and improved in cooperation with the Health Department Berlin Mitte.
The price of a tattoo depends on many different factors. These include, among other things, the basic motif, the tattoo style, level of detail and individual effort for the development of the motif. In addition, the placement of the tattoo on your body and your skin condition or the associated effort, impact on the price.
During the preliminary discussion, a rough price range can usually be determined. The more precise the expectations, ideas or motifs are, the more precise our estimate of the price range can be.
Our minimum price for a tattoo is 130€.
This is very uncomplicated at MAYDUNA: Either you use our appointment form, write us a message via social media, send us an email to tattoo@mayduna.de or come directly to our studio. This way we can advise you better and arrange your desired appointment as quickly as possible. Of course you can also reach us at +49 30 544 315 47 .
Spontaneous desire for lasting art? We also offer a daily walk-in service starting at 10 am. First come, first serve!
When an appointment is given, a deposit of 100€ must be paid. This deposit is to be considered as a "security" and will be charged accordingly with the final price of the tattoo.
The deposit will be retained if you are late or do not show up for the appointment. The deposit will also be retained if you appear in a condition that is not tattooable, e.g. under the influence of alcohol, drugs, blood thinning medication or antibiotics.
You may notify us up to three business days prior to your appointment by phone or in person only, in case you're unable to attend or need to reschedule.
Cancellations via email or social media cannot be considered.
You should completely abstain from alcohol and drugs 24 hours before your appointment. Drink enough water to keep your skin hydrated and eat a proper meal before your appointment. Do not take aspirin or other blood-thinning medications. If you are on certain medications or have taken antibiotics in the last two weeks, please inform us at least three days before your appointment. Wear comfortable clothing that may get dirty.
Please answer our consent form honestly and truthfully to give you the best tattoo experience possible.
Please show up ten minutes before your appointment. The first step is to fill out our consent form. Here, you describe your desired motif as accurately and precisely as possible. Please answer our consent form honestly and truthfully to realize the best possible tattoo experience for you. Your tattoo artist will design your custom tattoo and decide on the size and placement together with you. We pay close attention to placement of each piece of art to balance aesthetics and function.
After the formalities have been completed, your artist accompanies you to one of our treatment rooms and applies the stencil (blueprint) to the desired body location. Here, we also explicitly make sure that the placement of your desired motif is adapted to your anatomy. The last step is the actual tattooing. Afterwards, our team will inform you about the optimal care and aftercare.
Pain is very subjective and everyone feels it differently, so we can't give you a clear yes or no answer to this question. Nevertheless, we can give you a few helpful hints to make your appointment more pleasant:
Before the appointment, it is advisable to eat well, get enough sleep and drink plenty of water so that your body is as fit as possible. Distraction in the form of music, movies, your favorite book or a good conversation with your artist will help you to pass the time more easily.
At the end of your tattoo appointment, your artist will cover the fresh tattoo with a breathable protective patch. Please wear this patch for the next 5–7 days. If it comes off before then, please remove it completely – we recommend removing the foil carefully in the shower. Wash your tattoo with clear, lukewarm water and let it air dry briefly. Apply a thin layer of tattoo cream twice a day for the next 2–3 weeks.
Refrain from full baths and swimming pools, sauna visits and direct sunlight in the first 4 weeks. During the first few weeks, your tattoo needs special protection to keep it from fading. After a few days, your tattoo may start to itch, which is completely normal. Please do not scratch or rub your fresh tattoo. Support the healing process by getting plenty of sleep, eating healthy and refraining from sports activities for the first 5–7 days.
We offer our daily walk-in service from 10 am. You are welcome to just come by without an appointment, smaller motifs can also be realised spontaneously.
Every four weeks, the epidermis (top layer of skin) renews itself and in the process sheds the old layer. This results in an initial, completely natural clouding of the subject. Several weeks pass until multiple skin layers have formed anew. During this time, the fresh tattoo is sensitive and in need of protection.
The fading of tattoos is a completely natural process. The constantly renewing skin literally grows over colours and motifs. But there are numerous ways and means to keep the luminosity and colourfulness of a tattoo fresh for a long time. Professionalism and hygiene already during tattooing are the basic requirements. Each new tattoo requires additional extra care to not fade prematurely. This includes protection from too much light, sun and moisture. If you treat yourself and your skin well, you will enjoy your tattoo for longer.
PIERCING
At MAYDUNA, we have spent many years researching and educating ourselves about the safest materials to be worn in body piercings in terms of biocompatibility, comfort and style. That is why we only use hypoallergenic materials compliant with the VPP Standards for Germany, including implant grade titanium and solid 14k nickel-free gold.
All of the jewellery at MAYDUNA is hand polished to a mirror finish and internally threaded or threadless for safety and security of the attachments.
In addition, all jewellery is covered by a quality guarantee, ensuring repairs or replacements in the unlikely event of a manufacturing defect.
These prices do not include jewellery.
Our basic range of plain, biocompatible Titanium jewellery starts at 30€.
The price includes a goodie bag with sterile saline spray for you to use for cleaning your fresh piercing. The fee for the first piercing is full price. If you get the same piercing twice in the same session (double helix, both nipples etc), the second piercing fee drops to 25€ (not including dermal anchors and earlobes). All prices are per piercing.
Definitely the most common question we get asked daily. The answer is “just a little bit”. Our skilled piercers will make your piercing as quick and painless as possible. Almost everyone says their piercing was way less painful than what they expected it to be. In most cases, it is a quick pinch and already over before you notice it.
After the piercing is done, you may experience a slightly burning sensation or increased sensitivity. This is completely normal, and you can continue your day as planned.
When you come visit us at MAYDUNA, you will be greeted by our friendly staff. They will help you select a piece of jewellery for your piercing. Your piercer then will sterilise* everything while you fill out a consent form for the piercing. Please don't forget to bring a valid government issued photo ID for that. Once everything is ready, we will bring you into our separate piercing room. The piercer will clean the area, mark for the piercing, and you can look at the placement. Once you're happy with the position of the piercing, the piercer will perform the piercing and install the jewellery. Once the jewellery is in, the area will be cleaned once more and you are good to go.
*We use a STATIM brand quick steriliser to sterilise each piece of jewellery. This method is fast, safe and even used in various dental clinics. Please ask us for our sterilisation documentation.
The piercing process itself usually takes about half a second. We usually plan about 30 minutes for a regular piercing appointment. This includes choosing your jewellery, filling out consent forms and the piercing process. If you are in a hurry, please ask at the time of your appointment how long it will approximately take.
MAYDUNA is both walk-in and appointment based. As we are located in an area with heavy traffic, sometimes we can get very busy – in these cases, appointments are taken care of first. Of course if you walk in and we have time, we will pierce you.
It is very normal for a fresh piercing to bleed a little bit afterwards. This usually only takes a few moments. Our expert piercers will make sure that everything is nice and clean and any bleeding has stopped before you leave our store.
At MAYDUNA we only use single use, sterile piercing needles. This is the safest, least painful way to get pierced. If you want to know why nobody should use piercing guns, you can visit the page of VPP
With any open wound there is a certain risk of infection, however since we only use sterilized jewellery, gloves and tools to do your piercing, we minimise this risk significantly. To ensure this, all sterile packages will be opened in the piercing room in front of you. Combined with correct aftercare from your side, it is very unlikely that an infection will happen. If you think that something is wrong with your piercing, you should contact us or your doctor immediately.
In case of any questions or complications with a fresh or even a healed piercing, please get in touch with us as soon as you can, so we can help you.
We do not pierce pregnant or nursing people at MAYDUNA. Your body is already undergoing stress and a lot of changes, so there is an increased risk of complications. We believe it is best to let your body focus on that and wait for the piercing.
At MAYDUNA we can only pierce you with jewellery that has been bought in our store, or same quality jewellery if you want to bring some with you. It must be implant grade titanium or gold in 14k or higher. In addition to this it must also be internally threaded, flawlessly polished, as well as being the correct thickness, length and diameter for your piercing. If you’re unsure whether your jewellery meets any of these standards, bring it with you, so our staff can inspect it.
Yes and no! Safe body jewellery does not exist in silver - the reason for this is that silver, when in contact with bodily fluids, can oxidize and turn the skin around the jewellery piece dark. As we only carry safe body jewellery that is meant for permanent wear, we cannot offer silver. But don't worry! We carry beautiful pieces in white gold for all of you who prefer it to yellow, rose and titanium colours.
As per law, you need a legal guardian to consent to the piercing if you are under 18 years old. Both of you must have a valid government issued photo ID. If this isn't enough to prove guardianship (different last names or addresses on the ID, for example), we would also need your birth certificate to prove that the adult you brought is actually a legal guardian. If you are between 16 and 18, we can pierce you with a written consent from your legal guardian (they don't need to be present). The written consent form must state which piercing exactly can be done, and contain your full name and DOB, the full name of the legal guardian and their DOB, signature and a copy of their photo ID. If you are under 16, a legal guardian must be present.
To get nipple or genital piercings, cheeks/dahlias and surface piercings, you must be 18 or older. The minimum age for children who want to get their earlobes pierced is six years.
The piercing fees are listed on our website.
As we have a huge variety of different jewellery you can get pierced with, the final price may vary depending on what style of jewellery you prefer. Please give us a call or send an email with more details about your jewellery expectations, so we can give you a rough estimate.
We are happy to accept all documents that are valid in Germany – your passport, ID card or driving license. Please understand that we cannot accept a health card or school ID as a valid form of identification.
JEWELLERY
Due to the nature of body jewellery and health department guidelines, we can not accept any returns on body jewellery. Please make sure you are choosing the correct gauge and diameter/length of jewellery – our piercers are always happy to help you fit a piece to ensure that the sizing is correct.
We at MAYDUNA stand behind our products, almost all jewellery is guaranteed for life against any potential manufacturing defects.
If you believe your item has a manufacturing defect (discolouration, a stone has fallen out), you can bring it to us for inspection. Please get in touch with us and we will explain the process. We do not cover broken pins due to many cases of jewellery misuse.
We do not cover loss of jewellery, but we do advise you to add it to your insurance or look into jewellery insurance if you want to be protected against loss or theft.
We also do not cover damage done by yourself or other piercers by installing, removing or attempting to repair your jewellery.
Expert jewellers from world renown companies have crafted your jewellery. Our jewellery ...

We have created a guide on how your jewellery works:
Threadless jewellery:
The threadless jewellery is held in place by the tension of the attachment pin on the bent end. To remove the jewellery, hold it at both ends and pull in opposite directions. To reinsert, first insert the pin from the back, insert the attachment pin from the front and squeeze the jewellery.
Internally threaded jewellery:
The ends of this jewellery can be removed by unscrewing them (righty tighty, lefty loosey).
BCR (ball closure ring):
The clamping ball is held in place by pressure on both sides. To remove it, pull it out of the ring. To reinsert, insert one side of the ring into one of the indentations on the ball and press until it is firmly in place.
Seam rings:
These rings bend open. Hold the ring at 3 and 9 o'clock, with the opening at 12 o'clock, and push/pull in opposite directions to open the ring. Do the same in the opposite direction to close the ring again. Do not pull the ring apart as this will cause the jewellery to warp.
Clickers:
These rings have a small part attached to a hinge. Carefully pull the hinge part upwards so that the ring opens.
Feel free to contact us if you need help with your new jewellery. Our team is always there for you!
