what inspires YOU?
INSPIRED BY FINE ART, HER PATH LED TO MAYDUNA. GET IN TOUCH WITH SVENJA.
1. Who are you?
Hi! I'm Svenja, 25 years old and from Austria. I live for any kind of art and love to paint portraits of my dearest friends.
2. Where are you from and how does that influence your work?
I’m from Graz, Austria, and was very influenced in my art by my education at the Ortweinschule. There, before I started tattooing, I completed the master class for painting.
3. What is your favourite piercing you did at MAYDUNA?
A witch goddess from my "goddesses" series that I tattooed on my good friend. This was my first big project at MAYDUNA and I am super happy with the final result.
7. What’s your favourite tattoo on your body?
A small “maneki-neko“ from Bao.
8. What would be an absolute dream project?
I’d love to do more colourful tattoos. So pretty much anything with colour!
9. What do you like most about being a tattoo artist?
Being a tattoo artist for me is like being in love. I can‘t think of anything else, every time I tattoo I get goose bumps and it is what brings me the most joy in my life. It is the love of my life!
10. How would you describe your art in one word?
Dreamy.
4. How did working at MAYDUNA affect your work-life balance?
It‘s a privilege to be employed in a tattoo studio which introduced the 4-day work. This gives me enough energy in my free time to work on my passion projects, paintings and designs.
5. What do you like to do when you’re not working creatively?
On weekends I have fun with my awesome people from Berlin and even play DJ sets with friends from time to time.
6. Who or what influences your art?
Like many other artists, I draw inspiration from Instagram, Pinterest, and fellow artists. However, I would say that my biggest inspiration is my father. I come from a very creative family that has always allowed me to do what I enjoyed the most – art.

you, Dominic –
what inspires YOU?
LIVE, BREATHE AND MAKE ART: ABOUT DIFFERENT INFLUENCES FROM ART AND BIG BACKPIECES.
1. Who are you?
Hey, I'm Dominic, an Asian tattoo artist from Vietnam currently living and working in the heart of Berlin.
2. Where are you from and how does that influence your work?
I come from Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, a beautiful country in Southeast Asia.
I only have a slight problem with language differences at work, but it's fine and doesn't really have much of an impact.
3. What is your favourite piercing you did at MAYDUNA?
It's definitely the tattoo of Lady Gaga’s hand. You find a lot of symbolism and meaning in there for my client.
7. What’s your favourite tattoo on your body?
That's the tattoo on my back. It's the symbol of the city where I come from, designed in the traditional Asian tattoo style, done by the teacher who taught me the first basic tattoo strokes, also one of the artists with great achievements in traditional tattoo styles.
8. What would be an absolute dream project?
I’d love to do a really big backpiece, covering the whole surface in a mix of traditional and realistic styles.
9. What do you like most being a tattoo artist?
It is to live, breathe and make art. To be an artist.
10. How would you describe your art in one word?
Unique.
4. How did working at MAYDUNA affect your work-life balance?
Working here is quite comfortable, I also have enough time for my personal life outside of work, so to say it affects quite well.
5. What do you like to do when you’re not working creatively?
I love art, so I love to enjoy it, including looking at pictures or watching movies or listening to music.
6. Who or what influences your art?
Honestly, I'm not inspired by one particular person, but by so many different artists around the world. I love the traditional arts of Asia and the art and sculpture of Europe. I hope to one day figure out how to combine them to create my own unique art style.

you, Inna –
what inspires YOU?
THE MAGIC OF PIERCINGS: HOW THEY CREATE SELF-LOVE AND TRUE SELF-CONFIDENCE.
1. Who are you?
I'm Inna and I’m 32 years old. I'm from Bulgaria and have been interested in piercings since I was 14. I grew up in a small town where there were never any piercers; at school I always saw the unsuccessful attempts of my classmates to heal self-pierced or even shot piercings, so I always thought: "It must be easier somehow". After some research I found numerous forums on the Internet, where I read a lot about the subject. Quickly after that came my first piercing – a labret in the middle of the lower lip, which was then professionally done in the studio.
2. What is your favourite type of piercing you offer at MAYDUNA?
In the last few years, a trend called “ear curation” has developed and taken over the world. A curated ear project means a composition of piercings, a “constellation”. I love styling these! If we talk about my favourite type of piercing, I love doing conch and nipple piercings.
3. What do you like to do when you’re not working creatively?
Outside of work I'm a very social person, I like to go out with friends, to dance, go bouldering.... I recently moved to Berlin and I am still discovering and learning to love this wonderful city.
7. How would you describe your passion for body jewellery in one word?
Infinite.
4. Who or what influences your view on body jewellery?
I love the history of body piercing and seeing how jewellery has evolved throughout the years. In our modern day society, I see body jewellery as a way to adorn your body, make a statement, they are beautiful accessories, but getting pierced can also extremely help boost someone's confidence and self-esteem. My work at a very famous piercing jewellery brand gave me another view point - I got to learn so much about the process of making jewellery, different stones, metal settings etc. – after 10 years in the piercing industry, I got something new to learn and enjoy, and this made my job more exciting once again.
5. What’s your favourite piercing on your body?
My favourite piercings on myself are definitely my nipple piercings – like many other clients, I got them done after a bad breakup. Seeing them every day and taking care of them, helped me get through the breakup easier and feel good about myself again.
6. What do you like most being a piercer?
What I most love about my job is the happiness in the eyes of my clients when they see their new piercing for the first time – seeing that look makes everything worth it. In these moments I realize how I impact people's lives, make them feel better about themselves, help them love their body
more or simply giving them a safe, clean piercing experience and the opportunity to wear that piece of jewellery they've been so in love with.

Tell us about
you, Mandy –
what inspires YOU?
FATEFUL PATHS THAT ALLOW FREE SPACE FOR CREATIVITY.
1. Who are you?
My name is Mandy and I have already turned 25 several times. For 10 of those years I’ve been a piercer myself. My passion started quite early, at the age of 14, and since then I have been expanding my collection every year.
2. What is your favourite type of piercing you offer at MAYDUNA?
My favourite piercings are Dermal Anchors, because you can put them almost anywhere. They are always a big eye-catcher for me! But I also love to curate an ear, as you can go wild with endless constellations here.
3. What do you like to do when you’re not working creatively?
I love the sea, the sun and the beach. When the sand isn't sticking to me from sunbathing, you can find me at festivals. I love dancing with friends, and I really enjoy the atmosphere. My two cats are the most important thing on earth to me.
7. How would you describe your passion for body jewellery in one word?
Fate.
4. Who or what influences your view on body jewellery?
I love art and jewellery in connection with my own body. I worked as a hairdresser for a long time and the meaning behind it was similar. To change people's appearance, to give them something positive and see them leaving them with a smile on their face. But that wasn't quite enough for me, because body jewellery was always a great love for me. I think it was fate that I ended up in this job at some point, and I feel super comfortable with it.
5. What’s your favourite piercing on your body?
My favourite piercings on me are my Jestrum, which is also called vertical Philtrum or Medusa, and my Dermal Anchor on my back. Especially with our beautiful jewellery!
6. What do you like most being a piercer?
I love the creativity, diversity, and individuality of piercing. There are so many ways to place piercings – with each other, opposite each other or as a statement. Our bodies are all different and you always have to think differently. Making people happy with external changes makes me just as happy.
